A lot in general life we like to compare ourselves to others, we like to tell ourselves we’re no good. We’re not doing as good as the person next to us, and this is something that is so SO common within the horse industry. Comparison is the thief of joy.
Comparison isn’t something that’s going to keep us motivated, it isn’t something that’s going to keep us succeeding or improving. It’ll actually do the opposite, it just isn’t realistic to compare ourselves to other people and compare our horses/ponies to other horses/ponies!
Because ultimately we’re all different, including our equines. I have the tendency to think “Ah lord, blues now 7! 7! And what do we have to show for it? She can’t even canter in a straight line or on the right leg” and I think of all the other seven year old horses who are showing at high level, or who have been schooled impeccably. And there’s us, both trying to learn and get balanced.
But then in all fairness, I have to remember. I started off at the bottom, and so did my poor pony who unfortunately suffered from stifle injury twice!
We all come from different back grounds, we all have different expertise and experience. Our horses are all different, some thrive off learning and schooling. Some thrive off going on fun rides and hacking and some thrive off being a companion to a person and that’s fine!
So comparison isn’t going to do anyone any good, remember your the best you can be and that’s all that matters 💓
Oh and I’m absolutely over the moon, I now have 802 followers and over 8k have seen my post around anxiety and horses... thanks for sharing and enjoying this page as much as I do 💓
Enjoy the journey...
