Dealing with negative comments, unhelpful and unwanted advice. In the horsey world and everyday life! 🤭🤔
So, we’ve all experienced these category of people who like to give there advice when it wasn’t asked. Those who think your doing it wrong because your not doing it their way, those who think because they’ve owned horses for 15-20 years that they know your horse more than you. Yep those guys, we will come back to
them...
Firstly we need to divide the genuine person who’s just trying to make your life a little easier to the person who throws their opinions on you just to build their ego up or because they purely have nothing better to do. If your institution is anything like mine this is an easy task. You’ll know straight off who’s genuine and who’s not.
So what do we do? What do we say? How do we handle this awkward situation?
We think about our own principles, our own morals, and how we would like to do things with our horse. Being a strong person is key, being a polite nice person is also key. Just because someone has given us unwanted advice which is highly annoying, I get it but... This Doesn’t give us a free pass to be rude or hurtful. Just kind of say “ahhh yeah I know what you mean” this works for me. And the next day I’ll still be doing the same I was doing, even with the unwanted advice. I’ll still carry on doing what I know works for me and my pony 😁 Because one I owe myself that, and my precious pony.
Ok so what about negative comments? Harsh remarks? Snide comments? Bullying? This is a hard one to deal with, one that isn’t a quick fix. Not in the slightest, and takes a lot of determination and strength to get through it. If your anything like me your quite quiet about your knowledge, skills and abilities. I say my actions will show my skills, knowledge and abilities not my mouth. How does the saying go? You can talk the talk but can you walk the walk, oh yeah that’s it. So I kinda live by that, no one what’s a big head walking around telling everyone how amazing they are 🤦🏼♀️🤭
This may give a person the wrong idea of your abilities and knowledge and they may end up making harsh remarks or negative comments. Once again it’s about reflecting back on yourself, you know you more than anyone else. So you can reassure yourself that your great, amazing and should most definitely carry on doing what your doing! No one has the right to say any different...
So the moral of the story is, even if you see something you don’t agree with. That I see often, it doesn’t give me any right to tell that person. Just because I don’t agree with it doesn’t mean the other person has to not agree with it. We all do things differently and that’s so fine and super cool! We can’t all be the same...
So when your feeling a little down, just remember who you are. Your goals and morals. And that in itself should put a smile upon your face because...
YOUR AWESOME 😎 🤩❤️
